Set your oven to 350°F and cover your baking sheets with parchment paper.

Cream together the butter and sugar until it looks fluffy, then stir in the vanilla.

Combine the flour, cocoa, and salt in a bowl, then mix this into the creamed butter mixture.

If using, gently fold in the nuts and chocolate chips.

Scoop out dough by tablespoonfuls, roll into balls, and place them an inch apart on the lined sheets.

Pop them in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until the bottoms are just starting to brown and the edges firm up.

Cool cookies for about 5 minutes, then while still warm, roll them in powdered sugar.

Once they've cooled off completely, roll them again in the powdered sugar for a nice coating.
