Homemade Two-Meat Sauce (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meats

01 - 1 pound ground beef with low-fat content
02 - 1 pound spicy Italian sausage

→ Vegetables & Herbs

03 - 1/3 cup of chopped parsley (fresh)
04 - 5 minced garlic cloves
05 - 1 large sweet onion, chopped into tiny pieces

→ Tomato Base

06 - A 12-ounce can of tomato paste
07 - A 15-ounce can of fire-roasted chopped tomatoes
08 - A 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes
09 - Half a cup of chicken or beef stock

→ Seasonings

10 - 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
11 - 2 teaspoons of dried Italian herbs
12 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
13 - 2 tablespoons of white sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Heat a large deep pot on medium-high and cook the sausage and ground beef while breaking them up into little bits. Toss in garlic and onion, and cook everything together until the meat gets nicely browned. Tip out any extra grease.
02 - Turn the heat down a bit to medium. Mix in the sugar, dried herbs, salt, pepper, parsley, and tomato paste until they combine well.
03 - Pour in the crushed tomatoes, roasted diced tomatoes, and the broth. Give it a good stir until all the ingredients are mixed together.
04 - Let the sauce come to a gentle simmer. Lower the heat to its lowest setting, and let it cook for at least an hour. If you can, let it go for 3 to 4 hours to boost the flavor.

# Notes:

01 - A bit of sugar can take the edge off the tomato's acidity.
02 - The longer your sauce cooks, the richer and tastier it gets.
