Set your oven at 350°F and grease two loaf pans, size 8x4.

Toss together the flour, pumpkin pie spice, salt, baking soda, and baking powder in a big bowl.

In another bowl, stir the canned pumpkin, applesauce or oil, vanilla, eggs, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth.

Add the wet mixture to the dry one and stir just until it comes together.

Carefully mix in the chocolate chips, keeping a handful aside for topping.

Pour the batter into the pans and scatter the remaining chocolate chips on top.

Bake for around 50-55 minutes, checking with a toothpick to see if the center comes out clean.

Leave the loaves in their pans for 10 minutes, then gently move them to a rack to cool fully.
