Pop the kernels however you prefer. Remove any kernels that didn’t pop and toss the fluffy popcorn in a big bowl.

Combine the sugar, salt, corn syrup, and water in a medium pan. Heat it on medium, stirring often, until the sugar melts and it starts boiling.

Split the cooked syrup into different bowls. Mix a different gel dye into each one.

Do one color at a time—pour the colored syrup over the popcorn and stir right away to coat it before the syrup firms up.

Spread the coated popcorn on baking sheets covered with silicone mats or parchment paper. Leave it to cool and harden.

Once it’s set and fully cool, break the popcorn into smaller, bite-sized chunks.
