Fun Candy Popcorn (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base

01 - ½ cup of popcorn kernels to make roughly 10 cups once popped

→ Candy Coating

02 - 1 cup white sugar
03 - ½ teaspoon table salt
04 - ¼ cup light corn syrup
05 - ½ cup water
06 - ½ teaspoon baking soda

→ Coloring

07 - Gel food dyes in various shades

# Instructions:

01 - Pop the kernels however you prefer. Remove any kernels that didn’t pop and toss the fluffy popcorn in a big bowl.
02 - Combine the sugar, salt, corn syrup, and water in a medium pan. Heat it on medium, stirring often, until the sugar melts and it starts boiling.
03 - Split the cooked syrup into different bowls. Mix a different gel dye into each one.
04 - Do one color at a time—pour the colored syrup over the popcorn and stir right away to coat it before the syrup firms up.
05 - Spread the coated popcorn on baking sheets covered with silicone mats or parchment paper. Leave it to cool and harden.
06 - Once it’s set and fully cool, break the popcorn into smaller, bite-sized chunks.

# Notes:

01 - It’s easiest to work with one syrup color at a time
02 - Be cautious when handling hot syrup—it’s really hot!
03 - Make sure everything is completely cooled before breaking into pieces
